Jaquael’s Progression to SUCCESS

Jaquael reapplied to ACCES-VR in 2022, fully engaged, responsive, and eager to work. He had previously worked with ACCES-VR during high school and was ready to take the next step toward employment. Collaborating closely with his Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor, Carole Jarvie, he participated in a career exploration assessment and self-advocacy training. Additionally, he took part in various services, including a community-based work assessment, and recognized the value of gaining more hands-on experience before entering the workforce.

Through an internship at Goodwill, Jaquael built his skills and confidence in a supportive environment. This experience reassured him that he was ready for employment.

Jaquael successfully secured a job at a hotel, where his employer values his contributions and provides positive feedback. With the ongoing support of his job coach, he continues to build confidence in his role. The company fosters a positive work environment by recognizing employees with fun events like pizza and ice cream days, making Jaquael feel appreciated and motivated.

Thanks to the structured support and services he engaged with, Jaquael overcame challenges with self-confidence and developed into a reliable, productive member of the hotel team. He looks forward to his shifts and takes pride in his work, demonstrating how determination and the right resources can lead to success
