ACCES-VR for Transitioning Active Duty Personnel and Veterans
ACCES-VR is committed to assisting active duty service members with disabilities in their transition to civilian careers and all veterans of any era with disabilities facing barriers to employment.
ACCES-VR can serve veterans with both honorable or less than honorable discharges and those with service connected or non-service connected disabilities.
ACCES-VR works in partnership with other military and veteran service organizations, to provide direct assistance or referral to those organizations whose core mission may appropriately meet the needs of the service member or veteran.
The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is the nationwide primary resource for assisting veterans with their post military needs such as health care, housing, and with vocational rehabilitation employment services. Individuals must apply for this service through the VA, meet their eligibility criteria; honorable discharge, have a twenty (20%) or higher rating, and apply within ten (10) years of discharge from active duty. Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment (VR & E) which is the equivalent of state vocational rehabilitation programs.
The New York State Division of Veterans Affairs will assist any New York State current active personnel or veteran with; starting a claim before discharge, student loans, New York State income tax exemptions, employment, care and attendance.
How to Apply for ACCES-VR Services
ACCES-VR has fifteen (15) district offices located throughout New York State to assist you. Each district office typically holds biweekly orientation sessions where you can learn more about ACCES-VR services and eligibility requirements. Some services are based on economic need; however, in all cases applicants are eligible for counseling, guidance, and placement. Contact the ACCES-VR district office near you for times and dates and to register for the next convenient orientation session.
