Transferring Passing TASC™ and/or GED® Test Scores from Other States to New York

Interstate Transfer of Passing Subtest Scores for GED® and TASC™ From Other States to New York State Toward Meeting Credit Requirements for a NYS High School Equivalency (HSE) Diploma

The information below is specific to transferring scores from high school equivalency (HSE) tests taken in other states to NYS. If you wish to transfer scores from NYS to another state, you must contact the appropriate HSE diploma credentialing body in that state to determine their process.

1. Candidates applying for the transfer of passing scores on the GED® Test and/or or the TASC™ Test from other states to NYS must have resided in NYS for at least 30 days and must schedule a subtest at a NYS test center before submitting an Application I. Please see the Requirements to take the GED in NYS.
2. Application I is used to transfer passing scores for the GED taken in other states to a NYS HSE test taker’s record. The process described below is required to verify NYS residency, and age eligibility to take the test, and permits the merging of passing scores into a candidate’s test records.
3. Complete and submit the Application I form after registering for the GED using your NYS address and scheduling a subtest. You must include your GED account number on the application. To register for the GED and schedule a subtest, go to: ged.com
4. Online Proctored (OP) testing scores from out-of-state will not be accepted if test taker was a NYS resident at the time of testing.
5. A copy of a document that proves NYS residency must be submitted with your application (for example, a non-expired NY driver’s license).
6. Candidates who previously took and passed GED subtests from the 2002 GED series (in any state) and/or took and passed TASC subtests in another state, from 2014-2021, or took the GED test in 2014 or later in any state, may use those passing scores toward meeting the credit requirements for a NYS HSE diploma if otherwise the conditions described above are followed. 
7. To earn an HSE diploma in NYS the final subtest needed to complete the full battery of passing subtests must be taken and passed at an approved NYS HSE test center delivering the GED Test.

• Register for a GED account on ged.com and schedule needed subtest(s)
• Complete Application I, including GED account number, and either mail to the NYSED HSE Office at the address on the letterhead or submit digitally.
• Applicants must also provide the official transcripts for any passing scores from the jurisdiction (state or territory) where GED or TASC subtests were taken. It is the applicant’s responsibility to contact the jurisdiction to request that they submit official transcripts directly to the NYSED HSE office.
• A copy of a document that proves NY residency must also be submitted with your application (for example, a non-expired NY driver’s license).
• Documents must be mailed or faxed. Please note: “Attn: Application I” on all documents being mailed or faxed. 

• Change your address in the Profile of your ged.com account to your NYS address
• Complete Application I and include your GED account number
• Submit completed application to the NYSED HSE Office
• A copy of a document that proves NY residency must also be submitted with your application (for example, a non-expired NY driver’s license)
• Online Proctored (OP) test scores are not accepted if taken in another state while test taker was a NYS resident.
• If submitting the Application I form digitally, a copy of proof of residency must be mailed or faxed. Please note, “Attn: Application I” on all documents being mailed or faxed.
